If you have graduated from the McDonough Leadership Program in the past five years, chances are that you would notice a few changes in the McDonough Center today. This section of the Web site is devoted to updating you on what has changed in recent academic years:

2019-2020 Academic Year:

• In the fall, we welcomed back Alexandra Perry as the second full-time Leadership Studies faculty member at ��ݮ��Ƶ.
• Curriculum Committee approved the renaming of the major -- Global Leadership Studies.
• We welcomed this year two new members to the McDonough Leadership Advisory Board – Josh Barstow ’91, Executive Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Business Development at OpenVault LLC in Boston; Melissa Yusko Clawson ’05, Chief Audit Executive at The Wendy’s Company in Columbus; Matt Majzun ’02, Medical Director of Quality & Patient Safety at the OhioHealth Doctors Hospital in Columbus; Heather Taylor-Miesle ’99, Executive Director of the Ohio Environmental Council in Columbus; and Mike Templeman ’00, foreign service officer in the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C.

2018-2019 Academic Year:

• Paul Worstell, former PRO-TEC Coating Company President, served as the 2018-19 Fitzgerald Executive-in-Residence (EIR) at ��ݮ��Ƶ. He worked with a group of seniors who were preparing to graduate.
• We welcomed this year two new members to the McDonough Leadership Advisory Board – Heather Olivea ’96, Senior HR Leader at Amazon, and Ashley Wollam ’08, Director of Learning and Leadership Strategy at Macy’s.
• We added two new pictures to the McDonough Center building as part of the “Living the Mission” initiative – Elman Woodson ’03 (Cohort 13) and Tyson Brown ’06 (Cohort 16). Woodson is a Managing Consultant in the New York office of Navigant Consulting. Brown is a Principal Day-Ahead Market Analyst at Pacific Gas & Electric Company in San Francisco.
• The McDonough Center hosted the 10th annual McDonough Leadership Conference, a national event highlighting undergraduate and graduate research on leadership.

2017-2018 Academic Year:

• David E. Brown, a retired emergency room physician, served as the 2017-2018 Schwartz Leader-in-Residence in the Department of Biology and Environmental Sciences at ��ݮ��Ƶ.
• In January 2018, we welcomed to the team Tracey Wynn, the McDonough Center’s new administrative coordinator.
• The 2017-2018 Fitzgerald Executive-in-Residence (EIR) project focused on ethical issues in healthcare. Sixteen students worked with the EIR, Dr. Alexandra Perry, Clinical Ethicist for OhioHealth in Columbus, to understand ethical issues that arise in healthcare.

2016-2017 Academic Year:

• Laurel Johnson, a Michigan native and recent graduate with a psychology major from DePauw University, became our next COMCorps member.
• Christy Hockenberry stepped down as the McDonough Center’s administrative coordinator at the end of the 2016-2017 academic year.
• Pat Willis ’70, Founder and Executive Director (Retired), Voices for Georgia’s Children, led a successful Fitzgerald Executive-in-Residence Project, which assessed the impact of the nonprofit sector on the Mid-Ohio Valley, using national databases, local resources, and direct outreach to the community.
• ��ݮ��Ƶ served as the hosting site for the 2017 Ohio South Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) Seminar. HOBY is a national organization dedicated to training young leaders. Approximately 175 high school sophomores from around Ohio convened on campus from June 7-11, 2017.

2015-2016 Academic Year:

• The students in the 2015-2016 Fitzgerald Executive-in-Residence Project, led by Gerard ElChaar, Co-Principal of Focused Edge Solutions, a consulting firm, made a presentation to a group of executives from FedEx Ground in Pittsburgh in the spring. The presentation was based on their EIR project, entitled “Drone Technology and the Supply Chain Industry.”
• Stephanie Starcher ’96, Superintendent for Fort Frye Local Schools, led a group of students in a successful Schwartz Leader-in-Residence project through the Education Department.
• The McDonough Leadership Advisory Board added two new members – George McAfee, Head of Commercial Development, Marine Transportation, for Marathon Petroleum Company; and Jerry Tardivo Alcoser, Deepwater Gulf of Mexico, Business Development & Planning Manager for Chevron Corporation.

2014-2015 Academic Year:

• Through a collaboration between the Political Science Department and McDonough, the College hosted the inaugural Schwartz Leader-in-Residence Kathleen Reddy-Smith, a retired U.S. Department of State diplomat. Aside from helping teach a class on Middle East Politics, she took a group of students to Washington, D.C., as part of the project's culminating experience.
• Dr. Tanya Judd-Pucella, Associate Professor of Education and Leadership, received the prestigious McCoy Award for Teaching Excellence.
• McDonough gave two Mister Mac Awards -- Jim Luce, founder and C.E.O. of the James Jay Dudley Luce Foundation; and Brian Moynihan, C.E.O. of Bank of America.
• McDonough established the Leadership Experiential Education Fund (LEEF), which will give students grants in support of internships, study abroad, undergraduate research, conference participation, and service projects.

2013-2014 Academic Year:

• Alexandra Perry joined the McDonough Center as the second full-time professor of leadership studies.
• The Curriculum Committee approved the Engineering Leadership Certificate (ELC) -- the fifth track in the McDonough Leadership Program.
• Maribeth Saleem-Tanner joined the McDonough Center as its newest Director of Civic Engagement.

2012-2013 Academic Year:

• The University of International Relations (UIR) and ��ݮ��Ƶ co-hosted the inaugural Summer Palace Forum on June 29-30 in Beijing, China.
• Robert Rubin, Co-Chair of The Council on Foreign Relations and former U.S. Treasury Secretary, received the McDonough Center’s Mister Mac Award for Leadership Excellence.
• The Office of Civic Engagement hosted two Alternative Spring Break (ASB) trips. Over 20 students took the opportunity to travel to New Orleans, LA, and Pine Ridge Reservation, SD, to learn about social justice issues and engage in meaningful community service initiatives.
• Peoples Bank, in partnership with the McDonough Center, held the inaugural Peoples Bank Undergraduate Business Case Competition.

2011-2012 Academic Year:

• The Executive-in-Residence Program was named in honor of Barbara ’73 and Paul Fitzgerald who established an endowment in support of the EIR program.
• Sally Evans established the Robert E. and Sally S. Evans Civic Engagement Endowment designed to fund an internship program. The internship takes place in Marietta and involves work with children (K-12 age group) in a nonprofit organization broadly defined (including public schools and government agencies).
• Scott P. Theodore '86 established an endowment to support the McDonough Leadership Conference.
• Heather Eichner joined the McDonough team as the new Nonprofit Capacity-Building Program Manager in the Office of Civic Engagement.

2010-2011 Academic Year:

• The Office of Civic Engagement hosted the inaugural Mid-Ohio Valley Nonprofit Capacity-Building Regional Conference on campus in May 2011.
• AHEAD Energy, a Non-Governmental Organization, partnered with ��ݮ��Ƶ and relocated its headquarters to the McDonough Center for Leadership and Business.
• Anousheh Ansari, the first female private astronaut, received the 2010 Mister Mac award during an event sponsored by the Economic Roundtable of the Ohio Valley.

2009-2010 Academic Year:

• Amanda Dever joined the McDonough Center as the 2009-2010 AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) for ��ݮ��Ƶ. Focus: Anti-poverty initiatives.
• Robert McManus is granted tenure and promotion to associate professor.
• The McDonough Center hosted its fifth Executive-in-Residence, Tim Cooper, Former Owner, Smoky Mountain Trains LLC. Focus of the EIR Project: Co-teaching with Prof. Ed Osborne of LEAD 307 (Leadership Dialogues), with an emphasis on Leadership and Entrepreneurship.
• McDonough issueed report (“An Analysis of Nonprofit Capacity Building in the Mid-Ohio Valley”) based on study funded by a Sisters of St. Joseph Charitable Fund grant.
• McDonough hosted the first McDonough Leadership Conference, in honor of Jackie DeLaat. The conference focused on Women in Leadership.

2008-2009 Academic Year:

• The McDonough Center hosted its fourth Executive-in-Residence, Kevin Henning, Senior Vice President of Supply and Transportation (Retired) Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC. Focus of the EIR Project: The Future of Energy Report.
• Dr. McManus accepted tenure-track position at McDonough following a national search.
• McDonough launcheed new Teacher Leadership Certificate (TLC), particularly designed for students pursuing the Education major.
• McDonough received grant from The Sisters of St. Joseph Charitable Fund to conduct a major study of nonprofit capacity building in the region.
• McDonough launcheed Mentorship Program in collaboration with the College’s Career Center.
• McDonough launcheed Visiting Executive Program.

2007-2008 Academic Year:

• The McDonough Center celebrated its 20th Anniversary.
• The McDonough Center hosted its third Executive-in-Residence, Barbara A. Fitzgerald, retired Senior Vice President of Store Operations for PetSmart. Focus of EIR Project: Customer Service.
• Robert McManus joined the McDonough Center as a teaching fellow in the summer of 2007 as part of a one-year assignment.
• Daniel Huck accepted position at Berea College in Kentucky.
• Renee Steffen joined the McDonough Center as the 2007-2008 AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) for ��ݮ��Ƶ. Focus: Anti-poverty initiatives.
• The Leadership Orientation renamed as the EXCEL (Experience Civic Engagement and Leadership) Workshop.

2006-2007 Academic Year:

• The McDonough Center hosted its second Executive-in-Residence, Robert E. Peterson, president and managing director of Wickaboag Consulting Group, Inc. Focus of EIR Project: Developing a Communication Plan for Local Businesses.
• ��ݮ��Ƶ was voted one of the top 10 Make a Difference Day projects in Ohio for 2006.
• Tanya Judd Pucella joined the McDonough Center as the Director of Civic Engagement. Tanya also teaches some of the core courses within the Program.
• Christy Hockenberry joined the McDonough Center as the Administrative Coordinator and Building Manager.

2005-2006 Academic Year:

• The delegation from Kodolanyi University (Hungary) visited the Center as part of an exchange partnership.
• The McDonough Center facilitated a meeting for the International Leadership Association: Latin America Chapter in Amsterdam.
• Students from the Center traveled to New Orleans to help with the Hurricane Katrina Relief efforts.

2004-2005 Academic Year:

• Bruce Hurley hired as the director of experiential education with half-time teaching responsibilities. The position was later renamed Director of Civic Engagement.
• The McDonough Center hosted its first Executive-in-Residence, Mr. Henry Jelinek, Jr., president and CEO of Jelinek Cork Group, based in Canada. Focus of the EIR Project: Co-teaching with Perruci LEAD 307 (Leadership Dialogues), with an emphasis on International Business Leadership.
• Steve and Barbara Blume moved to Cape Cod, Mass.

2003-2004 Academic Year:

• Steve Schwartz stepped down as Dean of the McDonough Center and took a Senior Visiting Fellow position at the Policy Center on the First Year of College in North Carolina. Gama Perruci replaced him as Dean of the Center.
• The first two students declared the new ILS major (Megan Pinney and Jazmyn Barrow).
• Mary Shannon hired for a one-year appointment as coordinator of experiential education.
• Two Leadership Practicum courses (LEAD 140 and LEAD 240) added to the curriculum; LEAD 301 renamed and renumbered - LEAD 340 (Leadership Practicum III).

2002-2003 Academic Year:

• Faculty voted to approve the new major in International Leadership Studies (ILS).
• New curriculum adopted which renames, reorders and renumbers some of the core courses: 101 (Foundations of Leadership); 103 (Organizational Leadership); 201 (Theories and Models of Leadership); and 203 (Global Leadership).
• Sandra Kolankiewicz stepped down as director of experiential education. She accepted a position as the College's Director of the Gender Studies Program.

2001-2002 Academic Year:

• First LEAD 350 (Leadership Study Abroad) offered in May of 2002. The group went to Hungary for two weeks.
• Gama Perruci, associate professor of leadership studies, named director of academic program at the Center.

2000-2001 Academic Year:

• Steve Blume retired as Assistant Dean of the McDonough Center and professor of English.
• Daniel Huck hired as full-time assistant professor of leadership studies.
